Writing

I’ve been writing for a number of years, and here’s some of what I’ve done.

News writing

For Forge Press, I have written a number of news pieces, such as on the University cutting funding for the Students’ Union.

A project which I managed, alongside the Editor-in-Chief, was nominated for a national Student Publication Award, as we provided comprehensive Sheffield-based coverage of the General Election 2024. Additionally, I created the graphic identity of the project and also wrote one of the candidate spotlights, which you can read here.

As part of my course, I have written articles on political protests, a disability-access campaign and a local motorsport driver. These can be viewed at this link.

Football

Football was where I started out, and I had a blog in 2018 where I wrote about the World Cup and local matches.

In 2022, I wrote for Vital Leeds, a website covering Leeds United. I wrote news pieces and features across the course of a few months, and this work can be found at this link.

For Forge Press, I have written about Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday’s men’s and women’s teams.

During my University course, I also wrote an article on a press conference that I attended before a Premier League game between Sheffield United and Arsenal, and a round-up piece on the Sheffield Wednesday Ladies’ 2023-24 season.

I have also provided content for the AFC Wimbledon matchday programme.

Rugby league

For National World’s rugby league website, I spent six months writing hundreds of articles, garnering millions of views across them. They can be found here.

This role involved writing a number of news pieces, as well as analytical features and listicles, while navigating relationships with clubs and the RFL, the national governing body of the sport.

I also initiated a relationship between Forge Press and local side Sheffield Eagles, and I’ve written match reports, live pages, news pieces and round-ups covering them.

Basketball

I wrote articles on both the Sheffield Sharks and Sheffield Hatters’ respective SLB Cup finals in 2024.

This was a historic day for Sheffield basketball, with both sides making the Finals Day. The Sharks won a first trophy for nine years with victory over the Surrey 89ers!

Ice hockey

I’ve covered the Sheffield Steelers a number of times for Forge Press, mostly match reports from the Sheffield Arena. These can be found in the Ice Hockey section of our site.

I also reported on their historic run in the Champions Hockey League, and a particularly exciting moment was reporting on their Challenge Cup win.

Other

I’ve also done a couple of album reviews, which can be viewed here and here, as well as a piece on research of dark matter!

An article I’m proud of was on the history of Sheffield Varsity. I spent hours going through our physical archives to make a feature, as there was very little information out there already. You can read that here!
